Mr.Debasish Pattnaik on "What is Biostimulants and how it helps to increase crop productivity"

Mr. Debasish Pattnaik is from College of Agriculture, OUAT, Bhubaneswar. Mr. Debasish Pattnaik is Ph.D. Scholar (Plant Physiology) and has done a study on macro nutrient use efficiency of rice(Oryza sativa) under short term stagnant water condition.

Climate change leads to adverse environmental situations that cause abiotic stresses which can lead to severe crop losses which range from 50% to 70%. To tackle abiotic stresses apart from the traditional approach of using plant growth regulators, biostimulants can also be integrated into production systems to modify physiological processes in plants to optimize productivity. Biostimulants are natural or synthetic substances that can be applied to seeds, plants, and soil. Biostimulants offer a potentially novel approach to mitigate stress-induced limitations. So, defining the appropriate place of biostimulants among other agricultural products such as plant protection compounds and fertilizers is a need of the hour.
