Can I intercropy Papaya with Coleus forskohli

Coleus intercropping in papaya
In the planting yr of papaya, first six month period can be utilised.Usually coleus should be planted in Jen-Feb or June-July. It is also not necessary that papaya is planted first.You may plant coleus in Jan_Feb and papaya at later date say March.
If different arrangement for irrigation of coleus and papaya is possible, its better as both have different water requirement.

you can plant coleus as interplant between papaya plants. you do not hesitate , go ahead.
But make ridges/elevations mixed with good amount of manure(s) in between lines of papaya plants. on the ridges you plant coleus cuttings.
Plant Coleus cuttings in between August 15th and Sep 1st week. Maximum Forskohlin content is available with your proper cultivation method in this period.

Irrigation requirements for coleus and papaya will put you in trouble, Coleus is prone to root rot and which may spread to papaya also. Coleus needs continuous moisture and for papaya you need some dry periods. Apart from this coleus is a heavy consumer and it will became a strong competitor to papaya. In all means, it is suicidical to cultivate coleus in papaya as inter crop. In 2006 itself we experimented it and had a very bad experience. You will be in awkward position, if you do so. Instead you can increase the density of papaya to some healthy extent.

Hello Sir,
What Sampanda said is quite true in terms of coleus is a strong, Yes its a very demanding and ensures it take all possible nutrients, leaving the competitor less to survive. However root rot can be contorlled one very simple solution is to treat it Tricoderma Viridi before sowing all you have to do is once the rice is filtered after cooking you take that rice water once chilled mix with the tricoderma virdi and treat the same, the rice water gets acts as a sticking agent of the bio to the stumps. you also add tricoderma virid & pseudomonas to the bunds before sowing.
