Dear mam,

Agriculture out come is our basic requirement that is food unfortunatly it is practised by uneducated and poor farmers u showing intrest is great.
1. owning land if u move little away some 50 km from capital u can get the fertle land for cultivation and this is the ideal distance.
2.Blindly reccommnding is waste as crops are region specific and climate specific looking on to the local condition only u can plan the crops by contacting local agriculture/Horticuture dept and universitys.

3. Lot of techniques developed under field of agriculture green house cultivation, drip irrigation, biotechnology, Tissueculture and aerobic cultivation of rice are the recent developiments.

4 Is as profitable as other business bepends on yr intrest.

Thanks Kirti for the response. We'll do as you suggest. Can you suggest which crops are ideal for TN (near Chennai) and Karnataka (near Bangalore)? Are there any good financing schemes provided by PSU banks? Also, have you heard of anyone buying wasteland and turning it fertile?

hi All,

I too have similar questions. I have been working in IT industry for 10 years and now wish to start a fresh in agriculture entrepreneurship. My base is in Maharashtra and I have a around 5 acres of land in konkan region near kankavali. I would like to know all the basic information related to building up the greenhouse, choice of crops, whether eligible for govt. subsidy, exporting etc. I have around 2 lkhs of capital to begin with.

This site has been immense help so far and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the contributors.

Hi All,

Those of you who are interested in agriculture are welcome, it’s a great thought you wanting to contribute to agriculture.

Agriculture is not as easy as what many of us think, because I belong to the city and i'm into agriculture (Animal Husbandry). It wasn’t and isn’t easy as I thought.

Please understand the biggest challenge is dedicated labour.
Also by the time you buy the land it will drive you crazy, people once know you are from the city every single move you want them to make will cost you and if you let loose it will cost you big.

Moreover like Kirti sir said, its not that you get into agriculture, buy a land and start the very next day with what ever you want to grow.

My simple suggestion start small and smart once you get comfortable then you go try and make it big.

Here are some simple tips from my experience, and many experience farmers.
Buy your land in place that you can visit often.
Ensure you have identified labour and proper supervision.
Start small with expert’s advice, go natural (Say no to chemicals)
Take is easy one step at a time, first u r well, then your cleaning, get some cows for manure and for the milk that can support your cost of labour.
Develop smaller portion of land such a mango grove or coconut with drip irrigation hence minimizing your labour, then plant small crops just as maize, groundnut, tapioca and so on, then add more natural nutrients to your soil and go for more higher yielding crops.

This is just a small portion of it, internet farming is not all, hands on is a lot different.

If people want to get a feel of agriculture, I can possibly help on a smaller scale find you a land of min of 5 acres find labour and supervision, around my farm.
See how it goes take a call on it and then decide how you want to make it big.

Send me a private message for my contact details.

"Agriculture is creation- Be a Creator"

All the best
Thanks,
Antony
