Yield monitoring and mapping systems

Hello,
I was suggested to equip my combine with a yield monitor. I looked to the internet and found a lot of different opinions. Some glorify yield monitoring and mapping, others say it is tough to obtain useful information to improve the crop performance. Does anybody have an experience with yield monitoring and mapping systems?
I’ve actually found out that these systems combine sensors with satellite positioning. Do I have to pay fees for the satellite positioning services? I see different solutions, such as EGNOS, DGPS and RTK. What is the difference?

Yield monitoring through GPS is a good idea. It is tough but you can improve the crop performance. Please contact the precision farmimg department for further details on GPS.

What do you refer to when you mention the precision farming department? Actually I don’t think we have a precision farming dept in Italy.
