Water Harvesting on hilly region

Hi All,
Appriciate your help for information.

I am from kolhapur district Maharashtra , we have land on hilly region where there is crop cultivation in rainy season while rest months its of no any cultivation as farming depends on rain.

I wanted to make water harvesting in such area with manual work of digging (as the region is such that no any vehicles can reach there.)

Is it possible to create such kind of project (of building manual canal )by undertaking the peoples who have land there and if yes what would be cost estimate for it.

Hi anurodh,

You should check in "India Water Portal - http://www.indiawaterportal.org/" for the different aspects of water harvesting to begin with.

Dear Sri Anurodh,

You can harvest the water by construction of check dams across the gullies to store the water to a little extent. PLease bring the matter to the Officials of Department of Agriculture, AGM of NABARD for taking up the works with Government funds. After storing the water you take up Irrigated dry crops like groundnut, maize, Bajra , vegetables during summer months. Please contact for further information of cultivation in hill areas.
