Tree plantation

I have already posted in this forum about sweatiness mahagony plantations. The mahagony tree will grow very straight .Two years back I have visited Kolkotha and seen the mahagony tree in garden physically .I enquired the landlord about mahagony tree growth and it's yield details.Only twenty cbt of timber was there on completion of twenty five years. So kindly calculate the present timber value.Kindly think about tissue culture teak (maturity 15 yrs minimum),sandalwood (maturity minimum 15 yrs and above ),Redsanders (15 to 20 yrs minimum),melia Dubia ( minimum seven years)

apart from these, if you have any other tips, let me know,

apreciate your early responce

hello sir
Teak can be planted at 2m x 2m, 2.5m x 2.5m or 3m x 3m espacement. It can also be raised along with agricultural crops at a spacing of 4m x 4m or 5m x 1m.
• Plough lands thoroughly and level it of. Mark the areas for pit digging by alignment and staking.
• Dig pits of 35 x 35 x 35 cm sizes. Refill the soil after seasoning and mixing with Farm Yard Manure and insecticides. On poor gravely sites, replace the pit soil by good soil.
• Use pre sprouted stumps for planting.
• Best planting season is from feb – sep or in rainy season.
• Firm up the soil after planting and apply irrigation wherever necessary.
• Apply 50 g of fertiliser in pit at the time of planting and thereafter in split doses or as per the fertility status of soil.
• Carry out weeding operations regularly. Weeding may be carried out @ 3 operations in the first year, 2 operations in second year and one operation in the third year.
• Carry out soil working periodically for better growth of plants. One working in the Ist year and two workings in 2nd and 3rd year may be adequate.
• Debudding in the initial years may be done to improve the quality of timber.
• Undertake prophylactic and control measures for protection of plants from insects/pests and diseases to ensure good health of the crop.

Irrigation:
irrigation during stress period boosts the growth of the plants. Irrigation should be followed by weeding (3,2,1) and adequate soil working. Two doses of fertiliser (in the month of August & September) @ 50 gm per plant of NPK (15:15:15) may be provided every year upto three years.

Once the trees are established they generally donot respond significantly to irrigation and fertilisers.

Teak

In earlier days normally we prefer and plant the teak stumps for doing the teak plantations. But now a days the tissue culture teak plantations families one.The tissue culture teak has been promoted for fast growth, better growth and early maturity. In India the forest dept.has identified some five breeds like Nilambur(Kerala),kulsoor(karnataka),Nallamala(AP),Teli(comman breed for trophical & semi trophical) & NC-21 (Vidarba) Palarsha is the very hard and sturdy breed.Among these breeds the NC-21 breed has been recommended by the scientists for fast growth, better yield and early maturity while comparing with the stump/ root culture teak plantations. The spacing dimension will be as follows 10'. X 10',9'x9 '& 9'x8.

Hi

Many of the farmers are enquiring about pathimugam cultivation. But I won't recommend the pathimugam because there is no proper marketing or buyer. If its possible only monopoly buyer. In India major portion of pathimugam were cultivated and also that can be used by people of Kerala for regular in drinking water and medicinal use.But the pathimugam farmers of Kerala also facing much difficult to marketing the pathimugam logs.Daily I am getting regular telephone calls regarding marketing of pathimugam timber. In Palakkad one trust is availiable for promoting the pathimugam but now they are not able help the farmers. The Pathimugam trees are growing automatically and naturally in the forest of the Thailand,Taiwan,Vietnam,Lovos,Cambodia & Indonesia .So they are getting the pathimugam logs from the forest in large scale .So these countries are exporting to the all countries in very low price. These are very important parameter for no demand of local pathimugam logs.
