The Importance of Quality in Teak Plantations

Tropical countries need to protect their forests and also satisfy their wood requirements. One option is to increase substantially, the area of managed natural forests. However, sustainable management of natural ecosystems and at the same time satisfying the demands, is not always realistic. Supplementary plantations are urgently required to produce renewable hardwoods for economic development, poverty alleviation and to decrease pressure on natural forests.

Plantations that use best management practices can be 20 times more efficient, in terms of production, as compared to the natural forests.

Teak is the most widely cultivated quality hardwood and has many advantages as a plantation species. However, critical problems are encountered in conventional plantations. New quality approaches are required to overcome such problems. The approaches must be open-ended and innovative. A range of possibilities is examined, including the innovative Consortium Support System of TEAK 21.
The impacts of plantation production beyond the growing site, like the natural forests, environment, downstream industries and the consequences of using timber instead of other industrial commodities must all be taken into account while identifying new approaches of plantation management. Ultimately, the whole process must have positive impacts on the human efforts to achieve sustainable development.

Teak cultivation

The tisue culture teak plantations will be entirely different from other kind of teak cultivation. In earlier days the teak propagagtion was done by seed germination laterly it wqs propagagted by stumpculture for fast grow with very straight. Now the tissue culture teak plantations are familier with many salient features like fast growth i.e minimum three feet per month ,uniform growth rate of 90%,no side branches will not comes if its occurs the the side branchs will wornout due course(the size of the side branch will be finger size). These are not occured in old type of teak stump propagagtion.Anyhow before planting the tissue culture teak sapling kindly observe some few things i.e where the tissue culture saplings propagator get the mother culture ? the propagator of tissue culture teak will have the plant pathology certificate from the concerned authority? finally the the TC teak saplings are virus free certificate?
Then proceed to plant Tc teak.
