Stevia cost

Hi,

I want to grow stevia in 30 acres near Satara.
I have good water source and red soil.

How much would the cost be for plants, how much does it cost to grow per acre? How much is the yield per acre per year?
How many labourers would I need for 30 acres?

I need a broader picture, to work out if Stevia is a good option economically, or should I consider any other medicinal plants?

Figures

Following are the numebr I got per acre:

2L for drip irrigation and plants. Is drip irrigation compulsory? sprinkler will work?

30,000 fertilizer, pesticides, labour.

10,000 misc

Total 2.4L cost for first year

Yield is 2500 Kg
At Rs 100 2.5L income. Is 100 the current rate, does it vary a lot.
How do I market it, where do I sell the leaves?
Can the dry leaves be stored on farm for good price?

Net Profit first year 10,000
2nd to 4th year: Rs 2L


How correct are these figures. I am looking for guidance from someone who is actually growing Stevia.

Before jumping to large acerage of cultivation of stevia, please ensure the following:

1. Please test the content of stevioside and Rebaudioside in the dry leaf. The future is really for Rebaudioside and not stevioside. REB-A has been approved by FDA for use in coke.

2. Please be very sure you can market the leaves to a buyer. Please be aware you have to compete with the Chinese for the pricing of the leaf.
