starting bonsai

Dear Sir,

I am starting from scratch to make a bonsai. I have bought a peepal plant which is new, about a ft tall and two roots . The nursery people planted it in a ceramic pot with sand and soil.
My queries:
- how should I take care of it?
- how long should I wait for it to grow for pruning?

I have three year old normal grown bouganvalia in a pot. Can I make a bonsai pf it?
