Maitreya group (www.maitreyagroup.com) is planning to organise a "Shetkari Melava" (farmers gathering) in Yavatmal district of Maharashtra on 25th & 26th January 2014. The event is expected to be attended by around 3000 farmers in Kalamb and neighbouring talukas of the district. The event will focus on imparting training to the farmers on organic farming, soil conservation, new techniques, distributing bamboo plants and displaying farm innovations.
Yavatmal is an agri crisis area with most number of farmer suicides taking plae in this area. The major crops are - Cotton, Soyabean, Wheat and Tuar.
