Selling Dairy products

All,

Offlate I have observed that lot many professionals are getting in to Dairy Farming. I have persoanlly noticed that people do have money and have enough and more direction on producing milk. What we all lack is a good professional market for milk and its products. Hence, I suggest, we all come together and help each other. As of today I get 100 ltrs of milk everyday from my farm and I am selling it to the dairy at Rs.17.50/- per litre. I can go up to incresing my capacity to 400 ltrs a day provided I have the market. Untill and unless we dont sell the milk at around Rs.23/- to Rs.25/- I dont think we would reallly make much money out of this business.

So, suggest all the karnataka milk product buyers and sellers on this site to come together and come up with a solution.

We have been giving milk to private dairy near Mysore. They are giving us 20.50 rate.
What those guys do is convert 3.5% fat milk into 3% fat milk. They remove 0.5% fat in the form of cream. Then they sell the milk at 23 Rupees and cream is additional income. My question is why cannot local producer follow same concept?

There is good demand for cream in the market. Another option is total conversion to cream and curd and sell individual commodities.

We have dairy producing 250 lts per day with plans to reach 1000 lts soon.

Milk Market: Selling Milk

Greetings of the day.

You are correct that many professionals have ventured into this business but the result is zero as some are just opening dairy to claim insurance and concessions from Govt without surveying market. I have also entered into this after retirement from Army and my concern was successful as I have maintained quality and not succumbed to demands of public like reduce the rate or there is water in milk. Firstly the milk was pure and who soever said that there is water in the milk I have taken the cattle to his/her door and milked the animal and gave milk. so the public understood that I am maintaining quality and they didn't bothered later. As regards to rates, when you supply to Govt dairy that is what you are getting. Why dont you survey potential customers and ask for rate without compromising quality. To maintain quality, you have to be present on the farm for maximum time to see that live stock is feeded properly, their staying conditions are hygenic and men maintain cleanliness not only for live stock but also for themselves. If rates are given by the customer, then be prepared to supply to the destination of the customer which may at times may be 30-40 KMs. I have done this. If you start maintaining quality and not succumb which will result in balance stock of milk and for this by products is the answer which can be Khoa, Ghee, Dahi and Paneer which has much shelf life and can be supplied to sweet shops. I am sharing this because I gained and now into service as such I dont have any live stock now but sharing the experience was what I thought. All the same please also look towards fodder which should be cultivated in your own farm. I am pained and my heart went out when I read you are selling milk for 17.50 Rs. Please survey the market in the city and gain. Best of Luck.
