Hi all,
could someone please give me an insight abour planting rubber trees.
I need info. about saplings any variations, spacing, and climatic conditions like in and around Chickballapur is it condusive?
Plz tell me the gestation period before the first yield and the returns one can expect for say one Acre of rubber trees.
Rubber is now selling at 208 Rs. a kilo in comparion to 50Rs 3 years ago and
140 Rs a year ago.
As far as the lucravity factor is concerned its seems feasible as the Automobile Industry is booming.
I need to know the cost in-puts and maintainence.
Thxs

Hi

The agro climatic requirements of rubber are
Humid tropical climate prevails in the rubber-growing tract. Average annual rainfall in the tract varies from about 2000-4500 mm. The southern parts of the traditional tract enjoy southwest and northeast monsoons almost equally while the northern areas receive mostly the southwest monsoon. From south to north the drought period extends from two to five months in a year and the distribution of rainfall becomes more uneven. However, variation in temperature and humidity in the rubber tract is not so marked as that of the rainfall. The temperature remains very warm and humidity very high throughout the year. Now you can decide if it can be cultivated in chikkaballapur.

For other details please write to the rubber board.

Ty very much indeed for your reply.
I was wondering if you could kindly give me more explicit details
on the economical part though.

I have planted rubber near Shimoga where the climate is different than said by Ashwini, but the growth is good and even the yeild in neibouring plantation seems to be good. The yeild also change with respect to the variety like RR 150, RR 414, RR 430 etc.,
In case if you are serious take a chance by planting 50 plants which needs about 1/4 acre land and decide after 2 years based on the growth and rubber content. Insted only looking into the theory which has proved wrong in many crops.
They say thet with Rs. 200 per KG one can earn upto INR 100,000/- per year after all expence, I am not very sure. Problem with tappers is still a serious issue.
I suggest you visit N.R Pura or Muttinakoppa near Shringeri to have a look of the existing farms and consult them.
