We bought 2500 saplings of the Rohit 1 variety drumstick saplings to plant at our farm in Jawhar, Thane, Maharashtra. These were to be planted @ 600 plants per acre in 4 acres of land. We had dug pits which were filled with FYM, 500gms of Single Super Phosphate and 500 gms of neem pdr mixed with the topsoil. We had some very heavy rains before planting and even before putting the saplings in the ground, many had got yellow leaves. Some of the plant stems got soft spots on them and rotted off. We went ahead and planted approx 1300 saplings and most of the stems rotted off within 2 days in the ground. We had treated all the plants to a copper oxy cloride drench @ 2 gm per litre of water. Now after a month there are new shoots coming out from the sides of the old rotten / dead shoot. But even these are getting soft and rotting in many cases. The same thing is happening with the reat of the plants in the nursery poly bags.
What could I do to save the new shoots ??
