Power fence & fence weed management

Hello

I am installing power fence in my farm. I hear that one of the main reasons for failure of power fence is growth of weeds under the fence, and that if the weeds are not allowed contact with the fence and cut regularly, the power fence is quite effective.

Given that weeds are a perennial issue, would it be a good idea to dig a trench at 1 feet depth below the fence and spread plastic mulching sheet to avoid weed growth?

I will appreciate hearing from experts in this group if a 3 ft width by 1 feet depth plastic mulching sheet can avoid weed growth under a power fence

Digging a trench and use of plastic mulch is a good idea, but you need to change the mulch frequently.
