I have 2 acres of land with water facility in karnataka so I would like to know how much it would cost to set 20000 chicken farming. and also please tell me about profit ratio

I have done some financials.

Cost of Land (Not included)
currently recomented is a proper metal/aspestas shed. It cost 16 Lakhs for 10,000 chickens
Average weight of chicken is 2 KG. If you take up contract farming you will be given Rs.2.50 per kg. So it works out to be Rs.5.0 per chicken.
it takes 41 days to grow. Then 20 days the place has to left empty to prevent any diceses. so average 60 days cycle.
Labour cost approx Rs.1.50 per chicken.
So return Rs.5.0- Rs.1.50 = Rs.3.50 per chicken for every 60 days.
Electricity cost?
If you take up bank loan Assume Rs1000 per lakh EMI, Rs.32000 for two months.

So Rs. 35,000 - Rs.32,000 = Rs.3000 is the return.
Then risk, yield loss (approx 5%) and labour is a challange.

Not worth.

I have engaged a consultant who did this job. I have also consulted some farm owners. based on there feedback this is more or less correct. Since these farms all have 6000 to 8000 chickens and then farmer himself with his family runs the show it is working out. For example these farmers can earn approximately Rs 6000 to Rs 7000 per months. They don't calculate depreciation land cost etc.

They don't go for aspestos shed rather coconut tree leaves based shed. so they don't go lots of financial details.


You go and experience it and share more information.

I believe cost of constructing the poultry shed for 10000 chicks (broiler poultry) will be more or less 8 - 9 Lakh rupees. I dont think so 16 Lakh is required.

for your profit calculation, take the MANURE which is generated by chicks. You can sell this MANURE.

As i Uunderstood from my readings that 80-85% cost is on feeds & chicks cost in case of integrated programmers like VENKY'S SUGUNA ETC... What will be investment cost in terms of seting up Hatchery in small scale to produce chics for broiler poultry & layer chics like BV or vencob or ROSS breeds? what are other oppurtunity to supply to small farmers if hatchery is set up in small scale to suurounding Area specially in southern Karnata?

I am interested in setting up for my dependents in Shimoga district of Karnataka to move forward like a co operative set up for some unemployed youths of my Village ... can some one guide with some projects to study an evaluate the feasability... please
