Hello,
I am interested in above cultivation at Devnur, Taluq Kadvru, Distt: Chikmangluru, Karnataka in 5 acres. I need all info, guidance

Hi Digambur, I suggest the following

1. Analyse soil and water for its quality
2. Go for Bhagwa or Early Bhagwa variety
3. Preferablly use tissucultured planting material or layers from Horticulture University, Bagalkot
4. Go for a spacing of 12 Ft X 10 Ft (Dont go for closer spacing which will lead to more disease/pest problem in future)
5. Dont take crop in the first year itself so that plants will not exhaust early, allow fruits from 2nd year

Regards
Harish

Pomegranate is going to the most profitable crop in India. And it can adopt in wide range agro-climatic condition.

For 1 acre plantation fixed cost will be 180,000/ (one lac eighty thousand). Maintenance during 2nd, 3rd year is about 75,000 /year/ acre. you can get profit in 4 th year. During the gestation period within 4 years you can run minus profit. after 5th year onward s your will be generated profit 3.5lac per year.

During this gestation period you can cultivate leguminous crop in between the row. Therefore, you can generate profit during this gestation period & it also helpful for nitrogen fixing in your pomegranate plants. Spacing for pomegranate is generally 3mx3m and plant population would be 444.

Before going to start the pomegranate plantation please send me your detail Agro- climatic condition of your zone and soil testing report.

Hi - Most of the points mentioned by Harish are good. However, I would suggest to go for a plantation of 13ft X 9ft. The recommendation of Rahuri University is to go for 14ft X 10ft. Go for Bhagwa variety for sure. You can get the tissue culture plants directly from Jain Irrigation as well.
