Polyhouse cultivation - Suggestions please

Cultivation under Polyhouse:

I'm planning to procure 1 acre of land near to chennai (50-80 kms) and start polyhouse cultivation to produce crops like capsicum . And, sell the produce in chennai.

Has anyone here cultivating high value crops under polyhouse.

a)Is 1 acre is sufficient to start with?

b)What is the amount of investment required for the setup?

c)what are the crops currently grown?

d)What could be approx annual yield ,annual sales value and return on investment? Just an approx figure will help.

e)what are the risks involved? known riks,pls.

f) Other than 25% subsidy from central gov, is the TN state gov providing any subsidy?

g) what are the requirements on labour , power and water. Considering that TN is facing acute power shortage, what could be the alternative arrangements that can be thought of for power . And ,will it be still viable?

h) Does cut flowers like Rose,Gerbera have a steady domestic buyer market (not considering the overseas ) ?


Rather than from consultants, I'm eagerly expecting replies from farmers/enterpreneurs who had real experience and want to share.

Hi

YOu can go in for protected cultivation of capsicum. It has a very good market in Chennai, bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai. The price varies depnding on the type of polyhouse you intend to lay. There are low cost, medium cost and high cost polyhouse. Polyhouse can be built for 1 acre. Cut flowers do have domestic market but the pricing is very less when compared to overseas.

I have the questions similar to greensb and planning to startup near chennai, the area is in the water belt and traditional cultivation methods are used to produce somevegetables & rice crops but I want to startup poly house with high yielding high value crops & of course low setup cost as I am planning to do it my own without any financial assistance. So please guide us thru in this process and share your knowledge.
