Pig farming
Intensive piggeries (or hog lots) are a type of animal husbandry specialized in the raising of domestic pigs up to slaughter weight.
Advantages of pig rearing
Pigs convert inedible feeds, forages, certain grain byproducts obtained from mills, meat by products, damaged feeds and garbage into valuable nutritious meat. Most of these feeds are either not edible or not very palatable to human beings
Pig grows fast and is a prolific breeder, farrowing 10 to 12 piglets at a time. It is capable of producing two litters per year under optimal management conditions
The carcass return is quite high ie. 60-80 percent of live body weight
With a small investment on building and equipment, proper feeding and sound disease control programme the farmer can profitably utilize his time and labour in this subsidiary occupation
The faeces of pigs is used as a manure to maintain soil fertility
Rabbit farming
Good quality White Giant and Soviet Chinchilla breeds are available for sale at
Department of Livestock Production and Management,
Veterinary College and Research institute,
Namakkal-637002, Tamil Nadu

Fish Farm
Dear Mr. Yogi,
Fish farm requires lots of water & this is very scarce in summer. Although returns in fish farm are quite high, you should consider this fact. If your ponds run dry then the fishes will die.
If you have plenty of water in summer then you can do culture of carps together with fresh water prawns - Macrobrachhium Rosenbergii (Fresh Water Giant Prawn) which can reach cultivable size in 5 months time & fetches a very high rate in the market compared to the fishes.
