SRI pattern is a way of cultivating rice that can increase the productivity of rice by changing crop management, soil, water and nutrients, with evidence of having managed to increase rice productivity by 50%, even reaching more than 100%.
This method was first discovered accidentally in Madagascar between 1983 -84 by Fr. Henri de Laulanie, SJ, French origin. This methodology further in english is popularly known as the System of Rice Intensification abbreviated SRI.
SRI method is very satisfactory results. In Madagascar, in some infertile soil which normally produce 2 tons / ha, farmers using SRI obtain yields of more than 8 tons / ha, some farmers get 10-15 tons / ha, and even reached 20 tonnes / ha. SRI Method of minimum at least doubled compared to the usual method used by farmers. It's just that required an open mind to accept new methods and a willingness to experiment.
Five practical basis of the pattern of SRI are:
1. Using young seedlings
2. With wide spacing of single seedlings
3. Maintain the soil moist but not stagnant
4. Enhance soil organic
5. Circulation in the soil maintained as closely as possible
