Hi everyone,

i have purchased 4 acres of farming land in Raigad district... I want to learn and start farming but that would take another 2 years to start..

One of my friend suggested that i could grow POPLAR tree which could be sold for wood after 2 years at a very good price. I need suggestion on how realistic this could be and the management required behind this.

Other suggestions are also welcome guys.

Hi Wasimali bori,

Only for people like you, there are books available in the market to get a good grasp as soon as possible. I agree it may be theory only, but at least you will ideas on how to go about instead of groping in the dark.

Dear Vasimali,

Please inform us whether 4 acres are dry land or wet land. - land is to be laveled or not

Irrigation facilities are available or not ( pond or canal or natural rivulet nearby ) otherwise we have to drill a borewelll

After development of land we can lay fencing live or barbed wire. We have install a pumpset with electric motor or oil engine.

If plenty of water is available go for paddy and other crops like vegetables , ground nut, millets etc .Or water is lesser go for fruit crops like mango, guava, etc

If water is not available go for farm forestry like casurina , eucalyptus, Malabar neem etc

Or not interested to culvate go for Tamarind or bamboo cultivation
