There are many crops including many high value vegetables, fruits, herbs, spices, coffee etc that can be cultivated in shades, ranging from 30% to 70% shade, and these can be cultivated in coconut, areca nut (betel nut), rubber, mango, cashew and other tree plantations (except teak, eucalyptus, bamboo, tamarind plantations) under the shade of the trees and also using some of the trees as hosts.
