Need advice on tree cultivation

Hello Experts,

I own a 1.5 acre land in Jalandhar in Punjab and I want to plant trees on my farm. I have been reading about farmers not really wanting to opt for Poplar cultivation due to decrease in the rates of wood/prices remaining constant. Which tree should I plant to get a decent return from this small piece of land? I am targeting to get a return on my investment every five years and the wood should be in high demand by exporters/local market.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Yogesh Sharma

I was able to pull up all these messages related to poplar. If you connect and have conversations with few of these people you should get some idea on current realities in poplar cultivation.
Some them are also engaged in other types of trees as well..

To be frank on a small piece of land we can not get decent income every five years. You have to go for poly house green house for vegetables or flower cultivation for getting higher incomes. or engage with dairy or poultry activities with the support of the land.

Or you may go for Taiwan gua with ultra high density (900 plants per acre) you will be getting Rs.3-4 Lakhs per annum. Besides this you can take sandal wood plantations in the inter space of gua with drip system you will be getting lakhs rupees may be 25- 50 Lakhs after 15-20 years . Up to 15 years you are going to get 15-30 lakhs on gua . Please think of like this .

Plantations for wood are not fetching sufficient income due to lack of demand now a days. Teak plantations will take 40 - 50 years where as Mangium ( Australian teak will be coming to yield within 15 years or soft wood plants like Kamar also will the getting in 15 years.
