Need advice for growing organic vegetables in small patch of land

im surprised why no one has replied to your quires, im a farmer from north india and have taking up farming almost a year back and due to the lack of farming skills i ran from pillar to post and learn a great deal,
in your case with small land holding which u think is a set back i can see a great opportunity
1- your land is close to the big city which is a big plus, big city have this big appetite for fresh farm produce.
2- you have small land that means small input and if u fail, losses will be marginal
what i can advice you is first u must go for soil testing learn what your soil can support for this you can go to IARI Chennai.
after that prepare your land with deep plouging providing it with ample organic manure, fertilizer micro-nutrient, NPK etc
then locate the high marketed value vegatables in chennai vegatables markets.
or you can simple go for high end vegetables like colored capsicum, baby sweet corn, red lettuces as these three are always in high demands year round by multi national fast food pizza chains or sandwich shops or cafe.

im also new hear and have suffered acquiring knowledge regarding farming and learnt the hard way, and seeing u in same condition like me have prompted me to help u with all means available,
before u start or get expert advice from expert in the field remember one thing that u r doing farming for extra income so no matter what one say take my advice no matter how small ur farm is
u must plant melia dubia tree or poplar tree around ur farm boundary in rows around 7-10 years times u can sale the timber from these trees fetching u pretty handsome income
feel free to ask anything,
or u can also go for ultra high density mango orchard if u dont want to get involved in farming on daily basis.

Growing vegetables is a labour intensive exercise. Then finding the right buyer is not easy. Supermarkets may not always welcome you with open arms. You will have to link up with someone who can market the veggies for you.
I suggest that you go in for regular vegetables like gourds, pumpkins, brinjals , curry leaf etc. You can tie up with Restore Chennai, an organic cooperative that buys directly from farmers or with P.B. Murali who holds an open air vegetable market at his own residence in the heart of Chennai every weekend. If you want details you can PM me. Cheers!
