Muskmelon & Watermelon cultivation in Aug~Dec

Dear Sir,

This is Bavane B R ,from a village Khudane ,Dist Dhule in Maharashtra ,400 KM north away from Mumbai.

I have 30 acres of land having PH 6~7 ,sandy loam and it has never been utilised for agriculture .I want to utilise this resource as to imporve my standard living.
I read many article on cultivation of muskmelon & watermelons.
I have many question related to that and how should I go for that ,request you to guide on this matter.
1) Does the land is suitable for cultivation of melons?
2) Is the market available for this produce during Dec~Jan.
3) How much is cost of cultivation & which methods are available?? Where I will get the seed of these melons? and what will be market price for it??

HI

Melons can be cultivated in your land. Since it is located close to mumbai, demand will be there throughout the year. Cost of cultivation depends on a various factors. Seeds can be procured from NAmdhari seeds, Nunhem seeds or bejo sheetal

For watermelon, Namdhari is the market leader.

For MuskMelon, I used Knownu seeds Kundan variety. It has given excellent yield and melons are good size, almost 3kg average weight.
You have to follow the cultural practice properly, sprays and fertilizer and have to harvest on 55th day or 56th day only, any later will result in losses. The company representative will help you.
I am saying this because I had to take 30% harvest wastage because I harvested on 60th day.

I am totally new in this field and looking forward positively to cultivate muskmelon . i will be very much thankful to you if you can help me on this matter like seeds availablity and qty of seeds required per acre/hectre, number plants per acre/hectre ,number of fruits per vine and size of fruits and required fertliser doses..approximate market price in the month Dec~Jan.Which market will serve the demand in this month...possibility of export the produce???

For all details visit knownu seeds website and post inquiry. They will have area representative who will contact you and you can ask him everything. I am in Karnataka, the conditions here may not be same as your area.

first go to nearby Agriculture university and go to Seed shop in ur area...i am in Akola n saw
watermlon and muskmelon cultivation as plasticulture........
