Precision farming is nothing but using all the inputs precisely without wastage and undertaking all the cultivation practices in time , efficiency and effectiveness in all the agronomic aspect like right tillage , right sowing time, appropriate plant spacing and plant population in unit area ,selection of right varieties of seeds, precise and need based application of nutrients through various growing period of crops with water soluble fertilizers comprising NPK , drip cum fertigation system for watering and nutrient administration , need based pesticide spray ( Economic threshold level ), used of pheromone trap, yellow trap , light trap, trap crops to monitor and control pest , Use of growth regulators to extend the crop duration beyond specific period, production of quality nursery in protray through shadenet house , use of organic inputs like panchagavya , neem cake ,bio fertilizers, bio pesticides , micro nutrients mixtures , use of remote sensing technology for monitoring pest and disease occurrence in the field ..
Here the yield of the particular commercial crop is sum total of factors of production like quality seed, fertilizer nutrients,irrigation, season and climate, weed control, pest and disease management , plant population , timely cultural operations...
For example the brinjal vegetable has the potential to produce upto 100 MT per acre
But a conventional farmer cultivate brinjal as follows
buy hybrid seeds and sow it in raised bed nursery- 30 to 40 % germination
He will plant around 11,000 plants per acre
Mortality 20 %
Remaining plant population 8800
fertilizer application in 2 to 3 doses
per plant will give on an average 1.3 to 2.0 kgs
per acre yield will be around 10 to 12 MT
Fruits size will not be uniform and vary in size and shining
Where as in precision farming
shade net nursery will produce quality seedlings in protay - 95 % healthy seedlings
mulching sheet can also be used but optional.
Crop geometry will accommodate around 8888 plants per acre
Drip system will give regular watering to all the plants uniformly
Water soluble fertilizers will be administrated through out growing period in weekly interval , keeping the plant growth steady and uniform
Fruits size and color will be uniform
Single brinjal plant will be able to produce 10 to 12 kgs brinjal ,per acre yield will be around 100 to 120 MT
But the growing season will be beyond 6 months and will continue for 10 months or year
Scientific pest and disease management as explained in the starting paragraph ..
Here conventional cultivation will give farm income of around 50 to 60 thousands per acre in 6 to 7 months
In precision farming it will give a farm income of around 5 lac per acre per year
