I want to start a project on Mushroom Cultivation in or around Kolkata. Can you guide me with the cost of land and other inputs and the profitability thereof?

Mushroom requires, relatively cool climate (less than 25 degree centigrade temperature). To provide this condition you need airconditioning of the area. In winter seasons it will be easy to maintain the culture. You get a short term training from the near by agriculture university or microbiology/ botany departments of university and do it sucessfully.

Hello there,
Profitability depends upon the species you are growing. Like Oyster mushroom cost only 15-17Rs/kg and can be sold at 120/kg. So do milky cost around 20/kg and can be sold at 120/kg. But button is the most costly and most complicated it cost around 40-45/kg and can be sold at 70-100/kg.

Everything depends upon the environment at your location and a low fraction depends upon the market targeted.

Time taken is also different for different species and the material you are using in the cultivation, because what the literature says is true only for ideal process but you never going to find the ideal condition in all aspects.. but a rough idea for you is; Button 50 days for initiation and 80 days to finish. Oyster and milky 28 days to initiate and 60 days to finish.
