Mango trees stopped growing as they hit rock underneath

Hi All,

This is regarding around 20% of Mango tress stopped growing due to them hitting a rock underneath in our 10 acres (9 year old) Mango farm which is on a mountain/slope terrain. This is seen in the trees which are mostly towards the top of mountain.
This we observed after 6-7 years of planting.

We are now thinking of replacing these 20% of trees.

Please suggest which other plants are best suited as a replacement of these trees considering that depth of the ground is less.

Also planning to check the depth in other places of the farm as a precautionary measure.
Any technical info regarding the minimum dept required for each plant type(horticulture) will be appreciated.

Hello,
This not because the roots hit stone, but because of lack of nutrition at the top of slop/hill.
apply cow dung and other organic materials on soil as for as the branches have spread, earth up and make bunds 5 to 6 feet down side of the plant.

If possible, check the soil for the nutrient level and add the difficient, in two parts if rain irrigated, or equally with every water if it is drip irrigated.

Minimum depth of soil reqiured for each plant Horticulture plant

Thanks ramananda & iiht for your response.

I saw once in ETV Annadatta program that the minimum depth of soil required for each plant Horticulture plant is important factor before selecting any plant for cultivation. I mean if a pant requires 2 meters depth then we need to ensure that the untill 2 meters depth the soil type/quality is good & conducive for growth. If this is not checked the plants stop growing after few years. They had given/shown example of Mango.

I was actually looking for a info (a table sort of thing) about which plant requires what dept of soil ? Like as per annadatta lemon requires less depth than Mangos.
Any info on this appreciated.
