Mango Plantation

Hello All,

I own a 2 acre plot Semi-dry/dry land and am making arrangements to have drip irrigation set in place.

My questions is how many Mango tees i can plant in this 2 acre plot keeping in mind a small 10*10 shed and a dug up tank of 15*10.

Suggestions on this matter are much appreciated.

Regards,

Hi,

There are different spacings followed for cultivation of Mango. 8m x 8m is the general spacing, you can also go in for high density planting of 4mx 4m or 5mx 5m. For the regular sapcing you can accomodate around 85 plants per acre and under high density planting you can accomodate 250 or 160 plants accordingly.

Hi Ashwini !

Sorry for intervention . I do not know whether high density mango plantation is advocated in semi dry and dry area..

Nevertheless the field is drip installed , the semi dry/ dry land area strictly warrants conventional planting methods..

The concept of drip irrigation is to efficiently use scarce resource like water which is less available in dry area ...water available for one acre can be extended to two acre with 130 to 140 % efficiency..

Further the drip irrigation is an opt concept for arid/ semi arid area ..

So in such area , since soil and water conservation is a prerequisite ..only conventional planting method with a spacing of 10 M by 10 M is followed..with 40 plants per acre..and 80 plants for 2 acre ..

As a matter of fact ..judicious use of water and soil mulching is recommended for any type of cultivation in semi dry/ dry area..

Where as high density mango planting require large no of plants per acre , meaning more water and regular pruning ...

Either in case of insufficient water or pruning in the absence of requisite water will cause stress and shock in mango plants reflecting badly on the mango tree establishment and yield..

If I am wrong.. sorry..do correct me..and expect your good self to come out with little more clarification..

Ramu

sir
actually for dry area spacing should be closer 4mx4m will be suficent because in dry area plants will not grow faster therefore high density planting is advisable
