About kalikiri

The Central Para-Military Forces (CPMF) training centre and firing range coming up in an area upward of 400 acres in Kiran’s native mandal of Kalikiri is considered a major boon to the region. The facility will provide training to recruits of Indo-Tibetan Border Force (ITBF), Border Security Force (BSF) and the Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF). Another major booster is the Sainik School coming up in 92 acres with an outlay of Rs.60 crore. It is the 25th in the country and second for the state.

JNTU-Anantapur Engineering College, two Government Junior Colleges at Gurramkonda (regular) and Mahal (Urdu) and model schools at Kalakada and KV Palle (Rs.3 crore each) add a new dimension to education. Besides, a Government Polytechnic, an Agricultural Polytechnic and a Horticulture Polytechnic are coming up in Kalikiri.

The girl child’s education is also taken care of, with the allotment of residential schools/junior colleges for general, BC, SC, ST and minority girls.

Under the comprehensive protected water scheme, Kalakada, KV Palle and Kalikiri mandals will soon get piped drinking water from the Jharikona reservoir at a huge outlay of Rs.100 crore. Krishi Vignan Kendra (Kalikiri) to educate farmers and a Pasu Vignan Kendra (Valmikipuram) to train cattle-rearers are meant to enhance productivity. While the National Academy of Construction will train enthusiastic youth in masonry, plumbing, electrification etc., the Skill Development Centre (Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu) is aimed at enhancing livelihood opportunities. “We have arranged streetlamps in all the 1185 habitations in the segment”, Ch. Penchal Reddy told The Hindu with a sense of accomplishment, on stepping down as the Special Officer of PADA. The community health centres at Kalikiri and Piler have been upgraded as 100-bedded hospitals. The estimated investment of Rs.1000 crore pumped into the segment truly makes it a ‘VVIP constituency’!
