I wish to create a container garden for medicinal herbs at the terrace of my residence in Ahmedabad, Gujarat State, India where the climate is tropic. Creating a small green house is feasible for the purpose.

I wish expert help to identify a few herbs, especially ones good for blood sugar control and maintaining BP levels within range.

I could also use professional help for the entire project. I invite proposals from experts at my e-mail: hsparekh@gmail.com

Thanks.

Hello Mr. Parekh,

A terrace container garden can be a very good option for growing medicinal and culinary herbs in Ahmedabad's climate. Many herbs grow well in containers when they receive adequate sunlight, proper drainage, and regular watering.

Some commonly grown herbs for home gardens include Tulsi (Holy Basil), Mint, Lemongrass, Aloe Vera, Curry Leaf, and Ajwain. These plants are generally suitable for container gardening and can adapt well to terrace conditions.

When selecting containers, choose pots that provide enough space for root growth and have proper drainage holes. Lightweight plastic pots are often preferred for terrace gardens because they are easy to move and maintain.

Before selecting herbs for specific health purposes, it is always advisable to consult a qualified healthcare professional. However, from a gardening perspective, starting with a few easy-to-grow herbs is usually the best approach.

Wishing you success with your terrace herb garden.
