Dear Herbarian,
Greetings from MADURAI.
India has become popular in manufacturing Allopathic medicines for the world by supplying to the tune of Rs 5500 crores. There are many factors supporting the Pharma sector to grow to this stage.
At the same time, Next to China India is recognized as one of the biggest country supplying Raw herbs to the world.
One may coincide the latent scope for India to emerge as a leading country for manufacturing Natural/Herbal Medicines.
Domestic market is also emerging. Thanks to Pathanajli for establishing a leadership in the sector.
Among various stages INDIA has to covert the supply source from wild to a produced one. Contract cultivation is the best appropriate approaches to deal .While normal agriculture is yet to become self reliant ,production of Herbals is much more challenge.
A farmer cannot market his produce easily and it is difficult for him to sell in regular market. Hence, we have to encourage contract farming. This is high time that the corporate and exporters has to source herbals from this approach as its directly provides quality and enable the country to sustain the Biodiversity.
M/s MGP Agro Med (P) Ltd is one of the leading firm has been effectively functioning on the contract farming system, especially producing Coleus.TACED has invited Mr M.Balasubramanian,Southern Region - Retainer for M/s MGP Agro Med ,to share his one decade experience in the field of producing herbs on contract farming
