I am from Kerala and is keen to know why pepper cannot be grown on Teak trees. I see large teak trees in Kerala but have never come acoss an instance where pepper is grown on teak trees
Teak is very aggressive plant so far as nutrient and water aquisition is concerned, paticulary when grown up.It has very stong and well developed root system, including surface/shallow roots. Therefore, it does not allow any vegetation to flourish in plantaion. If shallow rooted plants or a weak competitor is there it is strved of water and nurients and hardly survive;in some species light can also be a limiting factor.
