Can anybody tell me whats the current status of Guar gum cultivation and its marketing?

The demand for guar is poor in international market due to higher prices. Also, importers are not willing to buy Indian guar seed or guar gum at higher prices, instead they are looking for cheaper alternatives.
In financial year 2012, guar gum was the top performing export commodity with export of about 700,000 tons

The guar gum cultivation is for those farmers who can understand volatile market as it is export driven commodity. it is not for small farmers who can not take risk. Guar farmer need to keep an eye on market and act smartly.

Though the export demand is slow this year, still the oil drilling companies are buying Guar gum at lower price . As the US economy is picking steam, the drilling companies may also speed up their their drilling activities .

As far as South India is concerned, many farmers cultivated guar on small-scale and were able to sell it off at better prices (than Rajasthan Mandis) to fellow farmers nearby and experimenting agriculturists within their respective state, (especially A.P.) Now that prices are hovering below Rs. 100 in Rajasthan mandis, cultivating guar in South will be like growing coconuts in North and trying to market it in Kerala. Now everyone is silently watching the trend and waiting endlessly for a "boom" again. Ever heard the story of the goose which laid golden eggs?
