FARIDKOT: Every year farmers have to go through the trial of weather conditions, market-competition to sell their crops. Farmers who have been growing organic wheat have secured their share of profit in the market amongst large number of farmers who wait for days at procurement centres to sell their crops.
Farmers who have chosen to adopt organic farming made wise decision as the demand of organic food has gone up. Organic crops are being sold at better prices up to Rs 3,000 per quintal in comparison to market sale price of wheat that is Rs 1,285 per quintal. The organic produce has been already booked at prices between Rs 2,700 and Rs 3,000 per quintal.
Organic farming deters the use of fertilizers and pesticides and requires 70- 80 per cent less water than the conventional farming. Things which are naturally available are used for organic farming like cow dung, jaggery and gram flour. During the first two to three years the yield falls by 40 to 50 per cent. It requires zero investments and produce fetching 100 per cent more price.
The yield under organic farming is nearly half but the market price of per kg wheat is even higher than 100 per cent.
