Emu feed

LST feed is a natural and a right composition formula engineered specially for emus. Feed Emu’s correctly and they will reach the desired genetic potential.

Common feed available in the market with different composition are almost unaware of selenium toxicity. A balanced, efficient, toxic free LST feed to emus shall definitely help in attaining the desired genetic potential. In other words EFS (Emu Feed Supplement) + ENS (Emu Nutrition Supplement) = Desired Potential.

Apparent selenium toxicity in emuA commercial emu breeder experienced high embryonic mortality during the 1992-93 breeding season, (experimented at Department of poultry science – university of Arkansas) apparently associated with high levels of selenium. The feed was a mixture of catfish food supplemented with a vitamin E and selenium premix. The mixture contained an average of 1.4 ppm selenium. Selenium analysis was conducted on eggs from several hens laid during the period of vitamin and selenium supplementation and after the supplementation was withdrawn. Initial egg selenium levels ranged from 1.2 to 7.1 ppm, with a mean value of 4.2 +/- 0.7 ppm (n = 9). Eggs collected over a 2-month period post-withdrawal contained 2.1 +/- 0.2 ppm selenium (n = 6). Eggs sampled between 2 & 3 months post-withdrawal contained 1.1 +/- 0.1 ppm selenium (n = 4). Egg selenium levels decreased significantly over the 3-month period (P < 0.05) for each individual sample. )
We have introduced a selenium free feed which increases the productivity in delivering the correct size of eggs and high percentage of hatchability.

LST Chick feed from 0 to 8 weeks will give better immunity, growth & size. Right amount of protein will prevent chicks from splayed legs. Our LST feed to Emu’s will help them overcome “Growth Spurts” which will not affect the conversion rate. By one year of age the average ratio is 6:1, anything higher than that is a problem. Growth Spurts are common between 2 to 7 months which will give high FCR’s (4:1, 3:1 or even 2:1).

After 8 weeks the chicks which are accounted for breeders are been fed with our LST grower feed and birds which are for meat and oil purpose are fed with Cull feed. LST is proud to say that we have experimented and experienced new feed which increases the weight of birds to 38-40 Kg within 13 to 14 months, when compared to that of a usual feed where the weight is approximately 23-28 kgs.

A continuous study on LST maintenance and breeder feed on parent breeder birds has yielded good number of standard sized, healthy and a higher percentage hatchability eggs. Thus yielded Emu chicks are healthier and no antibiotics or steroids are administered for the chicks.
