I'am about to start a dairy farm and was trying to formulate a concentrate feed formula which was nutritious, least expensive and available locally. The farm being in Dharmapuri district Tamil Nadu, is the formula given below nutritionally balanced and appropriate

De-oiled Rice bran 40%
Beer/brewery waste-20%
Cottonseed oil cake-20%
Gram Husk-5%
Azzola/spirulina-10%
Black strap molasses-5%
Salt-1Kg in 100Kg
Mineral mixture -1 Kg in 100Kg

Though i don't have the exact prices i think i can get this for 11Rs/kg.
Also have a few questions around Organic Dairy Farming.
1.How can one substitute Antibiotics. Are there ayurvedic concoctions that can preventive in terms of diseases
2. The same with de-worming injections and the use of mineral mixtures. Are there organic concoctions/mixtures or substitutes for this.

Would really appreciate your feedback and help.

Thanks
Sajit

why dont you include maize grains, it is a good source of energy and cheap if yo can cultivate and store after drying to 15%-20% moisture content

it also is a better source of bypass protein i.e. RUP

Energy Content
(MJME/kgDM) 13.5

Crude Protein
(% DM) 8

NDF
(% DM) 9

SSS
(% DM) 75

Starch
(% SSS) 99

Fat
(% DM) 4.3

Hi SajitGopalan

Dont use Beer/brewery waste. If you use, then cattle life will be maximum two years.

That's news to me. I know several farms functional for several years which use Beer waste. However i also understand that it bloats the stomach due to excessive gas, which is why i have limited it to 20% of the total feed.

Could you please share adverse experience if any

Thanks,
Sajit

We are planning to procure it from a sugar mill which is around 10Km from the farm. Planning to store it a tank. Will have more clarity as we procure it and use it. Will keep posting updates here
