Curry Leaf as Coconut Intercrop.

Other than the climatic requirements, can curry leaf be cultivated as an intercrop in Coconut? If so, what is the distance between plants and what distance apart from coconut?

The climate i intended to do this is coastal area with high humidity (very near to sea coast).

Any suggestions/ideas?

Dear Sir,

Please let me know you are from which place ? If you are from coastal area you have better options than curry- Leaves. You can plant spices as inter crop, which normally grows under shed. Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapith Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, has successfully developed a ' LAKHI BAUG' ( which gives Rs. 1 Lac per year per acre ).

Place is near Visakhapatnam, AP. Land is 2 km from sea shore. I have read about that concept. Its combination of 3 spices. More the number of crops, more the work which is difficult given the labor availability in agriculture.

Utilizing the space with less maintenance crop is better atleast in my area.

Can you please let me know the curry leaf possibility and planting method/space etc.

Intercrop in coconut garden

Hi,

the suggestion of curry leaf intercrop cultivation is a best idea and its serve purpose of farmers.Firstup all kindly plant currleaf saplling in the boundries of the entire garden just like fencing.And then do the plant the curry lesf saplings inner portion of the coconut garden in the diemension of two rows in between of two rows of coconut trees and make it increase the density of the coconut garden by planting the curry leaf saplings .The spacing of the curry leaves is maximum one feet from one sapling and another sapling. and also selection of the currykleaf breed like 'SENGARI' & Bhopal.Its gives very excellent fragrance .
