Dear Sir,

I am also a software engineer in banglore working in ASP.NET. My native is denkanikotta near hosur, krishnagiri. I am marching towards this project. It is my dream project. I am thinking about it and gathering information for the past 2 years. It will take 2 to 3 years to kick start a diary form in my native place. I have the detailed project cost documented and filed with me. If u contact me i can give some idea. Cow may give birth to calf once in 450 days. It gives milk for 9 months other times it just eats. If u grow 10 cows it is not possible to have good business. expences are heigh in dairy farm business. u have to spend 100rs per cow every day. All the time all 10 cow may not be milking... if u want to know more contact me at

Hi patrick

I am Sathyanarayanan R,

I am Mechanical Engineer, working in an Elevator industry as Design
Engg in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, My native is Chengalpattu[Kancheepuram
Dist, Tamil Nadu], in these areas generally Rice & Sugar cane are
cultivated,

According to my knowledge, in chengalpattu we have one veterinary Hospital and insemination centre of dairy in the same hospital[but it was not so modernised and equiped], but it was one of the oldest hospital and there are 6no. Of Milk collections centresin our District

I am interested to Start a new Dairy Farm in the same location.. have
no past experience in Dairy Area & these type of business..
I have no land right now.. but i can owe a land upto Five Acres & I
have an interest to work in Dairy Farms to gain experience... Now i
need to know the following things

* General guide lines or Advises about starting the Commercial Dairy
Farm. Please send your project report that you have which you have stated in this forum, so it will helps me better.

* Is there any rules & Acts to start a Dairy farm[In terms of Where
the Land is located & Size of the land, Minimum count of animals i.e.,
Cows/buffulos should posses in a Commercial Farm], minimum experience.

* What will be the estimated amount needed for starting a Farm[which
includes the things for eg., with 20 animals and their shed, Feed
storage and their preparation, machines etc].

* Is necessary in Farms, to produce the Feeds internally for animals
or we can purchase it from outside and Feed them.

* Is there any condition that, what way, we are going to use the Milk
after procurement, when we proceeded by govt. loan[why i am asking
this is, i am interested to retail the procured milk to my surrounding
areas and not to give the milk to Govt. Milk societies & any other
similar types]

* Where i get these type guide lines & ideas in my Area, i need some
contact persons so that i can directly contact that persons for good
exposure..preferably from Reputed Dairy related Associations for good
exposure/Govt..

* Need to know the Loan procedures from Govt or any other, and
required conditions, what are the particular things i need have at the
time of requesting loan & how much Land is required for the
same..should I contact Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises
Govt of India for this case.

Expecting your views, ideas, suggestions & links..

Dairy Farm Project

Hi Guys,
This is Umamahesh from Hyderabad.I am working in a software company. After going through your mails with my experience in dairy farm i would like to clarify some of you doubts.
Before starting dairy farm certain basic requirements we have to full fill.
1.Land for fodder cultivation 1 acre for 4 to 5 animals.
2.Milk collection center should be there.
3.Whcih milk they are collecting (Buffalo or Cow milk)?
4.Plan for 10 animal farm.Starting stage buy 5 animals after 6 months bring another 5 animals.
5.Never depend on any bank or finacial instituion. You will not able to start. If u don't have enough money start with 2 animals or else borrow from other sources.
6.More than everything your personal invovement is required.
7.It is labour dependent sytem.
8.Nowdays milking machines have come.you can reduce the labour cost also.

You can reach me,Please contact..

Raju!it's nice you're thinking of farm at home even after taking your 1st salary.2 ac may not be sufficient for 10 animals.more over it needs full attention. can you spare?instead of you going back to diploma in dairy farming, you can employ an experienced person.some advanced dairies in india also offer training courses.if you're serious you may first try to know which suits you.try this way-first find out if any dairy is in need of fodder and try to buildup a relation with them by cultivating fodder in your farm and supply it at a price suitable to both.I'm sure some one will come to your view.cultivation of QUALITY fodder is the prime requirement for a successful dairy.

dairy farming

Dear Mr Thavamani, I am basically financial consultant based at chennai, and i am already doing horticulture in Tiruvannamalai dist. During the last 3 months, i am doing a small study on dairy form to work as complementary to my existing
activities. i was searching for decent local breed cow, which can yield between
10 to 14 ltrs per day, i found from my discussion with various farmers who are
holding around 10+ cows, say the cows are available at erode, salem and the
prices hv corrected from 35-40 k to 25-30 k per cow. I am planning to start a
dairy form with 20 cows and wants to slowly increase, I also feel, this segment
is highly labour sensitive, mechanisation is also limited scope if the size is small.
if you have done any project preparation, pl do share with me to understand more.

warm regards
