inter-crops in coconut plantation

Hi,
There are two types of inter-crops in coconut plantation , one is short-term and other is long-term.
If you have just planted coconut you plant 4 nos. Of Banana plants at a distance 1 mt. From coconut plant in east-west and north -south direction to protect Baby coconut plant from bright sunshine and strong winds. Between the rows you can plant anything suggested by Mr. Manoj Singh till coconut plants start giving yield.

Now you can Think of having long-term plantation as an intercrop . Spices along with other plantations at a proper distance could be a right choice. The plants prefer to grow in shade such as Spices like Nutmeg , Black-pepper, cinnamon, clove , cardmom, with the combination of Banana, Pineapple suckers , and the best option could be Drumstick (Moringa ). The fertilisers and water given to intercrop is sufficient , no need of giving anything to coconut. The yield of coconut increases by 23 % to 95 % . If permits you can leave in open 300 to 500 desi chickens like Giriraj / Vanaraj / Kadknath etc , they will eat insects / worms, their droppings is a very good fertilizer , they will find their own food and reduce on the cost of their feed.

By doing this you may get a net profit of Rs. 1 Lac and above per acre per year, this has been proved in some of the parts of our country and it is possible whereever coconut plants grows.
