chicory cultivation in south india

chicory cultivation is confined mostly Western & Northern Part of India. what could be the reason that that cultivation is not done in the south though the consumption is more?
Could weather be the factor?
 

Chicory

In Karnataka climate chicory will grow well. The crop is under the control of some coffee marketing companies. The root is the part used in this crop. Simply growing is not sufficient. It needs to be processed. The polysaccharide content in the root is an important parameter. One has to interact with growers, processors and buyers before venturing in to it.
