Hi,

We are cultivating Brinjal (Disco Mycho )l and Tomato vegetables near Palamaner (150 km to Chennai or Bangalore) and yield is just started.

We sold in chennai market last week @6 Rs Per Kg. After the expenses we are end up with 4 Rs per kg, but from the internet in Chennai Market Brinjal price is 12 Rs / Kg and in Dindigul Market 30 Rs / Kg.

Could anyone guide me to sell the best price. I can deliver it to either Chennai or Bangalore.

Thanks
Bala

Hi Bala,

If you want to get a fair & reasonable price, cutting down the middlemen is the best option. If you are able to directly sell to the end user, you as well as the end user will benefit. This will involve creating some basic infrastructure and then establishing the relationship with the end user as well.

FYI, I am in touch with Sudharshan in this regard as he is also in the same boat and trying to see what best can be done to mitigate this problem and benefit the farmer in the long run.

Let me know your thoughts on this as we can create like-minded farmers group and proceed further based on mutual understanding & discussion.

Hi Padmanabhan,

Thanks for your reply. I'm interested in your proposal. Could you please send the detailed plan to gannabalaji@gmail.com

Hi Bala,

I do not have anything (proposal) readily at hand. The only thing I am trying to do right right now, is to bring people who have issues with marketing of their crops and have a group discussion to take it to the next level.

As I said in my earlier post, I am working along with Sudarshan who is from Kanchipuram and see if people from Kanchipuram can join us and try to do a group marketing rather than individual marketing of their crops.

This will help the famers to do the following:-
1. Identify the crops the respective farmers are specialised in and ensure that multiple crops are available for marketing. This will enable us to satisfy the end users with more products or crops.
2. Enable to us to forecast the crop as well as its availability, tonnage, varieties etc
3. Share the transport cost?
4. How many times the pickup of crops needs to be done (daily, weekly etc)
5. Pickup point of the crops for the respective area farmers (is it directly from the farm or a common pickup point)
6. Identify the end user? (Direct End User, Vegetable Shops, Wholesalers etc)
7. Delivery point of the crops?

The above are just some of the discussion points and any discussion further is welcome.
