Here is a brief package for black gram cultivation
Practices method
1. Land Preparation
A. pre-sowing---- Irrigation Rainfed
B. Tillage----- Two discings with plank.
C. Fertilizer----- 15 - 20 kg nitrogen + 25 - 45 kg P2 O5 /ha
D.Herbicide treatment ---optional
2. Date of Sowing ----3rd week of June to 2nd week of July.
3. Variety----- Best suited for the location
4. Seed Rate---- 15 - 25 kg/ha
5. Seed Treatment
A. Fungicide Treatment Optional
B. Rhizobiwn Treatment Recommended
Two packets of Rhizobium will be needed to treat seeds of an acre. In order to make the rhizobium stick to the seeds, we need a binder. The binder is prepared using rice gruel.
6. Spacing
A. Row-to-Row Distance--- 30 cm
B.Plant-to-plant Distance--- 10 cm
7. Depth of Sowing----- 4 - 6 cm
8.Interculturing and Weeding Schedule---- One hand-weeding, 30 - 40 days after sowing.
9. Plant protection
A. Fungicide spray Optional
B. Insecticide spray---- pests can be controlled by spraying either Mehyldematan, Dimethoate or Phosphomidan at the rate of 2 ml per litre..
10. Irrigation Schedule Rainfed; incase of dry spell, one irrigation at pod-development stage is beneficial.
Though rainfed, the crop responds to irrigation. Incase moisture is insufficient in the soil, one or two irrigations may be applied, if available.
