If it is small scale for 100 to 500 sq.mt area means you can adopt your area but in practice there are some other methods to promote soil moisture, mulching with agriculture waste, opening contour bounds which will make the water infiltrate rather than runoff and also gully check always cover your field with some crop and finally add some amendments which prevents water loss.
