I thank you for your mail and yours was the only response I had II believe you
are aware of this oil and its value. and well accepted position in the Ayurvedic
medical arena .
As a matter of fact, we grow betel leaves on several small plots, as a farmer or grower can cultivate only small pots due to it requirement of monitoring and close care for the plants. Besi8des, we export some Basket to Karachi on regular basis, by Air. Karachi (Phan Mandi) buyers are the only buyers for Sri Lanka Betel leaves, if they reject we will have no place to sell our crop,
although a good number of Betel plots has been planted in Sindh province they do not grow so healthy, and dueling the winter season there is a crop set back.
Pakistani prefer to eat5 or chew matured leaf which is dark green in clour
and not so tended, they pay a sum of about USD 60 for a 9 Kilo cane baskets
by air to Karachi and little more to Islamabahad air port.
Normally a Kilo of average quality leaves will contain 160 to 185 leaves.
The standard packing is 9 Kilo per cane baskets (Nett/Gross)
To come back to our topic of extracting oil, I have seen few buyers have requested for Betel leaf oil, not only in India but even in EU and States. The price offered is also attractive, I think in India some are extracting BF oil if I am correct.
Here we have only one variety, but several grades can be picked from the
bush at various stages of maturity./ growth. organically cultivated plants
produce better looking healthy leaves.
Adequate raw material can be found, if the need arises.
As a growers of certified organic crops and very much interested in new
innovative agri based products, I felt like looking around for like minded parties to launch a Betel leaf oil extraction project in a small way.
Presently I am working on a Lemon grass and Vettiveru cultivation project
in collaboration with a party in Bangalore who are keen in setting up a oil
extraction plant here. for these essential oils. Overall the climatical condition
all over the country seems to ideal for many crop cultivations.
