Bamboo Cultivation

The cost of land is the biggest factor for any farming activity, and it is a well known fact that mountainous regions / hillocks cost a lot less than flat land.
I have read that Bamboo can grow over slopes.
1) What are the watering requirements ? I read on a few blogs that it would be happy with the annual rainfall in konkan region, and will require very little water for rest of the year
2) Are there any legal implications of bamboo cultivation (Approvals needed for planting / cutting / selling)
3) What is the type of land in which it grows the most ?
4) Before starting, would I need to have the soil tested in some laboratory to make sure bamboo can be grown on that land
5) What is the average income expected per acre of bamboo farming ? I have read the NABARD report here NABARD's Model Bankable Projects but not sure if the returns mentioned there are a bit too low
6) To make it financially viable, what is the minimum area of land which should be brought under bamboo cultivation ?

All inputs will help !!

Thanks

Hi paragere,

Bamboo grows everywhere. The watering requirement is very less and it can survive drought conditions as well. The profitability is anywhere between 50,000 Rs to 2,00,000 Rs. Minimum of 1 acre is a better option. Bamoo is not a schedule tree and hence there is no permission required from govt.
