I am getting queries for new fish farm. The process of starting a farm is as follows:
1. Ensure sufficient water is available for next summer.
2. Get soil analysis & water analysis done.
3. Dig the pond. Standard size is 1 Ha with 1.5 M depth.
4. Fill the pond 25% with water & manure with cow dung.
5. Allow 15 days for algal bloom.
6. Inoculate with zoo planktons.
7. Fill water to 50% & wait for monsoon.
8. When fish fry are available, stock the pond.
All the above process takes approx. 1 month so people who want to start with aqua culture should be careful as monsoon is very near & should postpone their plans for next year.

Dear RK Fishfarm,

I am interested in doing Catla / Rohu Fish Farming in Mudigere, Karataka where their is sufficient water. I have 5 Acres of Plain Agriculture Land out of which initially i want to do in 1 Acre. Kindly mail me the economics i.e.,

1) Size of Pond (I presume that the depth to be 4 Feet to 5 Feet).
2) Cost of Construction of Pond.
3) How many fishes can be reared in 1 Acre.
4) What is the cost of each Fish / Fingerlings?
4) In how many months do the Fish reach 1/2 Kg. OR 1 Kg. to sell in the market.
5) What is the survival quantity at the time of selling the Fish when it attains 1/2 Kg. OR 1 Kg. (i.e., if i rear 4 Lakhs in 1 Acre how much will survive)?
6) What is the expenditure of rearing the Fish in 1 Acre?

Also, if i have left out any expenditure please let me know.

Regards,
