BANANA FIBER EXTRACTING PROJECT
(A WEALTH FROM WASTE CONCEPT)
Banana aptly called as kalpatharu, A gigantic herb, a food fruit crop, an ancient species cultivated all over the world. Next to brazil India is the largest Banana producer.
Fiber is extracted from the pseudo stems of the Banana after the harvest. Banana fiber is a major alternative to pulp industry. Raw material is freely available. The Banana fiber project creates a lot of employment opportunities in urban and rural sectors. (As a wealth from waste concept) Banana fiber is eco friendly and biodegradable comparing to all other synthetic fibers.
India has about 5 lakh hactares of Banana cultivation only 10% of the Banana waste (Pseudo stems) is extracted as fiber, mostly the fiber is extracted by manual process, and the yield of fiber is very low and this kind of manual process needs skilled labours.
MACHINERY PROCESS
After a brief study of Banana fiber extracting Green India developed a Banana fiber extraction machine, which can be easily operated, by an unskilled labour and gives a maximum production output.
ADVANTAGES OF THE MACHINE OVER MANUAL PROCESS
Reduces drudgery.
Fifty times increase in fiber production compared to manual process.
User friendly & economic.
Less maintenance cost and safe to operate.
Clean work atmosphere.
13 to 18 kg of fiber production per day.

Banana fiber extracting machine will be promoted among self help groups, rural & small Entrepreneurs, Banana cultivating farmers ( An additional income of Rs.2,500/- per acre is assured).
PRODUCTION MADE OUT OF BANANA FIBER
A wide range of eco friendly items can be made out of Banana fiber, being a natural fiber it easily blends with other fiber such as jute and mestha. Products like, doormats, carpets, yarn, rope, geotextiles, travelites, luggage carriers and interior decorative items can be made out of this banana fiber.

Rope / yarn making by hand
while the counter twist by hand is continued till the required length of yarn for a knot is reached. This is reeled in the form of a hank and a knot is made at the end. SUPARI PLATE PROJECT :-1. In India 4 lac hectors of Betel nut crop has been cultivated. Near about 5,400 million areca leaves are sheded and treated as an agro waste.
2. One Supari Sheaths plate manufacturing unit. Needs 70,000 leaves per year. In this scenario near about 80,000 plates manufacturing units can be established all over India. 3 lac fresh employments can be given in 80,000 units. This Particular project can create “A Rural employment revolution” in India.
At present only SINGLE unit is established in maharshtra, in this unit is established by CHAMPS AGRO UNIT for self help groups, small Entrepreneurs and farmers at KONKAN REGION in MAHARSHTRA
Due to plastic pollution and awareness of this kind of Bio degradable items there is a growing demand for leaf plates and cups in global level.
This particulars project has been developed before 3 years.
This project has been aimed as a community based development programme, income generating Activity, poverty alleviation programme.
The beneficiaries Are:-
1. Supari farmers (An Extra Income through wasted leaves)
2. Leaf collection Labours.
3. Transporters
4. Entrepreneurs
5. Consumers
This “BEST OUT OF AGRO WASTE” concept is a on going process by CHAMPS AGRO UNIT.
We promote self-Help Groups, Unemployed Youth, Entrepreneurs. By Training, Supply of Machinery, Technical know-how. And buy back the finished products.
