What can you do with this land?
• Now the rainy season started you can Grow Ragi or other Cereal crop
Cost of Cultivation per acre
1. To plow per acre it will cost 1 hour of Tractor, you will have to plow twice so per acre is Rs 500/hour Tractor rate X 2 Hour =Rs 1000/acre
2. Ragi Seeds per acre 5kg X Rs 30/kg = 150
3. Labor for sowing Rs 1000/acre
4. Harvesting labor Rs 1000/acre
5. Deseeding Rs 1000/acre
6. Transportation cost to get the Goods to market Rs 1000/acre
7. 2 Watchmen for 4 month Rs 10,000 per watchmen X 2 = 20,000/month for 5 month = 100000, they can cover 50 acres so for Per acre cost is Rs 2000/acre
8. Miscellaneous cost per acre Rs 1000/acre
• Approximate Total cost per acre added line 1 to 8, Rs1000+ 150+ 1000+ 1000+ 1000+ 1000+ 2000+ 1000 = Cost around Rs 8000/acre
Revenue Per acre
• According to Tamilnadu Agriculture University (Click the Link) Agriculture :: Home if you use there variety, Rainfed Minimum yield per acre is 2000 kg 2000kg X Rs20/kg= Rs 40,000/acre
• Grass /fodder per acre is 1 truck load rs 5000/load
• Total Revenue =Rs45,000/acre
Profit per acre
• Revenue Rs 45,000/acre - Cost Rs 8000/acre = Rs 35,000 to Rs 37,000/acre
• So if you cultivate 50 acres then Rs 35,000/acre X 50 acres = Rs 17,50,000 Rs 17.5 Lakhs profit
• Even if you loose 10 acres still Rs 35,000/acre X 40 acres = Rs 14,00,000 Rs 14 Lakhs ( Rs 14 lakhs is after all expenses.
• In 4 month you can make this amount of money.
• These are not fake numbers, these are real numbers, even if you make half this amount still it is a good money.
Why we are not doing it?
• We are NRI’s living in USA
• Last 2 years we tried it, we leased the land to local farmers surrounding our land.
• The lease was word of mouth 1/3 the harvested grains for us.
• They grew Ragi, we sent our people to take a look, everything was fine, they harvested the grains.
• We asked for our share they said they are waiting for cleaning the seeds
• After a month they sold everything, we asked for our share, they said we did not grow, rat eat it, next season we will give you extra, they literally cheated us.
• We got very little share, instead of getting at least Rs 10 Lakhs we just got Rs 10,000.
• We have all the picture of growing, harvesting etc, since we are away in USA, nothing we could do, They really cheated us.
• We are sick of trusting the Local farmers.
