Hello, i m a resident of tripura n i want to start an aroma based tree plantation on 1 acre land. i m in a dilemma whether i go for agarwood tree or for sandalwood tree. agarwood tree is a native tree whereas sandalwood tree is not though it is found scatteredly probably imported by forest dptt from karnataka. my queries r
1. will the quality of heart wood of sandalwood be same with that of karnataka as humidity is quite heigher than that of karnataka.
2.which one is more profitable.

Hello Sir
I think u should make agarwood as ur main crop and plant sandalwood as sub crop as intercrop.

Agarwood as u said is native and will give u average yield from a single Agar wood tree of approximately 4 Kgs.
In the current market, agarwood is four-fold costlier than sandalwood.
The current price of Agar wood is averaged at Rs. 50,000 per Kg i.e. Rs.2 Lac.

Agarwood can grow only when the tree has fungal infection. When agarwood trees are damaged either naturally or artificially, fungus enters the tree. As the fungal infection progresses, the tree produces a dark aromatic resin in response to the fungal attack, which results in a very dense, dark, resin embedded heartwood. Here, fungi only spreads primary infection and does not multiply or attack the entire tree. Also, the tree doesn’t spread or give rise to any kind of fungus.

There is lot of variation in the price in-between each grades of Agarwood, so it is very important to plant high quality Agarwood producing varieties.
