This is a nonsense or someone is trying to cheat you , though there is relatively high value for Agar-this is the most expensive tree in the world now and Agar oil is the most expensive oil now in the world, almost ten times more costly than sandalwood oil.
You can get almost nothing or just a few thousand rupee per tree as softwood price within 5 years by cultivating Agarwood.
Agarwood can have high value only if it is properly affected by proper fungus.
Fungus naturally occurs in North East India only, and may happen within 10-15 years.
The new method is to give fungus treatment (inoculation of fungus) after 5 years in plantation agarwood, and it may take1-2 years to convert the wood into proper agar (ooudh), which has good value, say per Kg in the range of Rs. 10 to Rs.30,000 depending upon quality grades, and the best quality oil from North East Indian mature Agarwood is around Rs. 1 Crore per litre.
Oil content in the properly fungus affected wood is only <> 0.001 % to 0. 003%. And maximum Agar tree that can be planted in an acre is 1000 -1500 trees. You may refer this guy asking this question to mail us (medicinal.planters.india@gmail.com) to get complete details about Agar cultivation or you may forward the attached documents to him.
Agar is not one tree alone-Agar can be any of the 32 species belonging to two family: Gyrinops (5 species) and Aquilaria (27 species), and Aquelaria malaccensis and Aquilaria agallocha are the commonly found ones in India, and Aqularia malaccensis is the best adapted to India and this is the one now promoted as plantation, and need to be inoculated with fungus after 5-6 years (minimum girth thickness: 15 inches).
Gyrinops species is found in Cambodia and around only, and the best Agar from Cambodian Gyrinops (naturally fungus affected and matured in the range of 10-25 years old tree) called Cambodian sinking AAA+ (fungus affected wood pieces will go into the bottom if put in water due to heavy oil content). This may have a price in the range of Rs. 30 Lakhs per kg in the international market. But no chance of getting this price level from one acre of Aquilaria plantation in India after 5 years and Gyrinops is not yet found in India and its adaptability to India is not yet proved and there are no agencies in India promoting Gyrinops in India as plantation species
